Ballerina Misty Copeland Makes Big Onscreen Debut

The first African-American female principal dancer for the American Ballet Theatre, Misty Copeland has made an amazing name for herself in the entertainment world. Now, she’s securing her spot as one of the most influential dancers of this generation by appealing to a mainstream audience.

Misty is working on a fictional dance-drama TV show for Fox Broadcasting, all while celebrating the release of A Ballerina’s Tale, a documentary film following her meteoric rise, injury and recovery (check local listings for a screening in your area).

For the Fox TV show, according to, Misty is teaming up with writer Tracey Oliver, best known for her web series The Misadventures Of Awkward Black Girl. The dance drama tells the story of a “young, hip and diverse group of aspiring dancers as they fiercely compete for places in a top ballet company.”
